Famous and antique kinds of oil and non-oil (free) natural Arabic perfumes and ittar (attar). خوشبواور عطر

Ittar, often called attar, is a highly concentrated essential oil derived from botanical sources through traditional hydro or steam distillation methods. This timeless fragrance is crafted using natural materials such as flowers, herbs, spices, and even baked soil, distilled into a wood base like sandalwood. Aging these oils for one to ten years enhances their depth and richness, depending on the botanicals used.

The art of making ittar, dating back over 5,000 years, remains a cultural treasure. It flourished in regions like Kannauj, India, where age-old techniques such as hydro distillation with deg and bhapka are still practiced. Ittars have historically held significance among Mughal nobles and Sufi worshipers, with jasmine being a favorite among Hyderabad’s Nizams.

In many Eastern traditions, offering ittar to guests symbolizes respect and hospitality, often presented in beautifully designed crystal bottles known as itardans. This practice continues today, reflecting the enduring legacy of this exquisite natural perfume.
